In traditional Anatolian Folk Culture, women’s head decorations “tepelik” are seen in ethnographic museums today and are not used in daily life.
“Çarpana Weavings” and “Oya-Tentene” are historical elements of women’s hair decoration.

Promoting Historical Handicrafts in Turkey and Contributing to Their Cultural Sustainability through exhibition works is at the forefront.
Waste Cable Wires and Plastic-Metal Jar Lids were Used.
It was designed for cultural sustainability with “Çarpana-Tentene Lace”, based on the idea of Head Ornament, which is a part of Traditional Turkish Women’s Clothing.
In this respect, the exhibition works consist of sustainable jewelry design works.

About Songul Aral

Associate Professor Songül Aral was born in Malatya in 1971. After completing her primary education and high school, she pursued a two-year Textile Handicrafts Associate Education at İnönü University. She then continued her academic journey by completing her undergraduate education as a Crafts Teacher at Konya-Selçuk University.

Her dedication to academia led her to pursue further studies, culminating in a Master’s degree in Handicrafts Education at Konya-Selçuk University Institute of Social Sciences. Later, she achieved her Art Qualification in the same field at Ankara Gazi University Institute of Educational Sciences.

In 2002, she began her academic career at three different universities, where she contributed significantly to Vocational Education, Handicrafts, and Graphic Design. Her expertise led her to her current position as an Associate Professor at İnönü University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts, where she continues her academic and artistic endeavours.

Throughout her career, she has conducted extensive research, focusing on traditional ethnographical sets and production techniques of Anatolia, which are reflected in her Master’s and PhD theses. Additionally, she has enriched her academic experience by visiting Diamond Design Centers in Antwerp, Belgium, and collaborating as an academic visitor with PhD researchers in the Department of Jewelry Design at Loughborough University in England.

Moreover, she is actively involved in organizing workshops that incorporate sustainable and cultural heritage elements, adapting textile weaving techniques to jewelry design, thus contributing to the preservation and evolution of traditional craftsmanship.
