Songül Aral currently works as an Associate Professor of Design at İnönü University’s Faculty of Art and Design in Malatya, Türkiye. Her recent work focuses on sustainable jewelry design. She was invited as an academic visiting fellow to conduct research in the 3D Jewelry Design doctoral research group at Loughborough University’s Faculty of Design in the UK. During her academic studies between 2002 and 2024, she participated in projects examining traditional textiles and prepared two theses on traditional women’s metal jewelry and techniques at two local museums. She is honored to write for Garland Craft Magazine. Three of her books, which include information on sustainable technical production, are digital sustainable publications on Amazon Publishing. In 2024, I participated in the European Through Textiles (EuroWeb) action competition, numbered COST-19131. Three different project proposals were accepted for the grant award competition. As a member of the Working Group, she was the only candidate from Türkiye to receive three grant awards. In 2025, she was invited to the CIRCUL’ARTS 1st Circular Arts conference held at COST 23117 in Paris, where she introduced Türkiye’s Portable Intangible Cultural Heritage Handicrafts with sustainable prototypes using examples from Malatya. Her national and international academic work focuses on Türkiye’s portable intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, traditional metal ethnographic jewelry, and traditional weavings. She has conducted numerous workshops, particularly on the integration of textile and metal ethnographic jewelry techniques. She is a member of the Turkish Art Educators Association and a supporter of interdisciplinary design approaches to sustainable living.
